We make one day trip on Sunday, March 15 as the TIPP09 excursion.
Three tours, to the sights of Japanese tradition, are arranged.
These sights are easily accessed from
Tsukuba,
and March is the best season to visit there.
Each tour is escorted by an English-speaking guide and operated
with a chartered coach.
Reminder on the Excursion Reservation
Please note that the fee of the excursion is NOT included in
the registration fee.
The online reservation through the TIPP09 registration site
(registration page of JTB) is finished.
Those who would join one of the tours from now
should visit JTB Travel Desk on site
by 14:00 on Friday, March 13
and ask if seats are still available or not.
The application on the day of the trip (Sunday, March 15)
is never accepted.
In the morning of Sunday, March 15 ...
The tour starts exactly at 09:00AM.
The departure place of the coach is changed;
the tour bus leaves the Parking of CAPIO.
If you miss the bus, we are not responsible and no refind.
- To those who are staying in the hotels
around the Tsukuba Center:
please come to the Parking of CAPIO by 08:45AM
or get on the coach at Tsukuba station (08:40AM),
around the A4 Exit, for the parking of CAPIO.
- To those who are staying in KEK,
Hotel ROUTE TSUKUBA,
Hotel BESTLAND,
and Hotel SUWA:
one of the coarches for the tours
will come and bring you to the Parking of CAPIO at first;
please do not miss it,
leaving your hotel at 08:30AM
(except for the coach leaving KEK,
around Information Center (N01) at the KEK entrance,
at 08:15AM).

Tour 1: Mito − Kasama

Beautiful garden with Japanese plum trees in full blossom,
famous shrine and pottery.

| Koudoukan was one of the largest Clan Schools in Japan,
which was founded in 1841 by Lord Nariaki Tokugawa.
The compound has about 800 Japanese plum trees of 60 varieties,
from which the fresh scent and beautiful view of ume (plum) blossom
can be enjoyed. |

Inoh Tadataka (1745-1818)
is famous for his first accurately-measured Japan map
called "Inoh chart". He made a series of surveys of the whole country
for twenty years
after he retired from his family business at the age of 50.
You would be amazed to see the accuracy of his measurement
in comparison with the map by the Landsat satellite. |

After visiting the museum, we spend time by taking walk and shopping
in the area of
Sawara canal and historical district
(named "Sawara Neighborhood Museum").
In particular,
we visit Inoh Tadataka's Former Residence
and Mitsubishi-Kan,
in which the beautiful dolls
at
Hinamatsuri
(Girl's Festival of Japan, March 3rd) are displayed. |
